What was the problem?

  • The application’s interaction was outdated and confusing for users who were filling and applying for material procurement.

  • The lack of logical grouping & categorization in sections of the form overwhelms the user.

  • Using too many pop-up screens could be annoying.

  • Inconsistency in the interactive elements like dropdowns & input fiels, may mislead the user to complete a task.

  • Lack of guided workflow to complete the form.

  • Lack of information hierarchy in the layout increases the visual load, making it difficult to comprehend the information.

  • The absence of clear data division, increasing users’ cognitive load and user recall for information.

What were the expectations?

  • Creating a new portal with revised Information Architecure for Captial Expenditure.

  • Moving from historic, age old experince to modern customer centric experience.

  • Improving user experience, usability, and database management.

  • Implemented a database to file and log for material expenditure in a user-friendly, task-focused UI designed.

What did I do?

  • Explored the application with a basic understanding.

  • Enhancing data categorization and reducing the user recall while filing for capital expenditure requests.

  • Improved usability for filing the expenditure requests.

  • Established a basic design system for consistent application design language and enhanced information architecture and grouping.

  • Implementing modern visual design to bring the application upto date, making it usable and user-friendly.

  • Recommendations and How Might We was also given.

Based on the initial and high-level analysis,

I was able to brainstorm the pain points & the interaction issues observed, was able to come up with a few How Might We statements

help the users to have smart prompts to some of the information while doing their tasks?

Logical grouping & categorization of the information

This makes it easy for the user to take in the information, reducing the cognitive & visual load. Showing a relevant content will avoid the clutter and cognitive load.

Consistent interactions & visual elements across the application

A design language consistent across the portal which to 'search' & 'locate' the report.

Personalized content based on the user privileges & access

Leverage current design trends to create an aesthetically pleasing, intuitive, contextual, and smart interface.
